Shahin Joshi

SHAHIN JOSHI

CREATIVE DIRECTOR, CO-FOUNDER

While working towards my Master’s in Professional Accounting at Murdoch University, I took on a part-time job at a salon as a threading artist. My mom had drilled into me a strong work ethic right from childhood, so the added workload was just an interesting challenge that made me some cash. Over time, I was surprised to find I enjoyed the work itself, and was good at it too. When an opportunity to go into business for ourselves presented itself, it was Kunal’s absolute conviction that we can run a Beauty business together and make a success of it, that was the turning point where I pivoted from Finance to Beauty. And he was right.

I am a doer. I am happiest when I have a nut to crack. The creative side of the business is my chief focus, but I am constantly clued in to the ever-changing Beauty industry. From training my own team to now being able to offer training courses to aspiring beauticians under the Bang on Brows label, I have come a long way, and learned a lot along the way. There is a lot to be grateful for.

Working in beauty is fun, challenging and unpredictable. There’s is never a boring day!

Kunal Joshi

KUNAL JOSHI

DIRECTOR, CO-FOUNDER

I studied Commerce and later trained in the Hospitality sector. In my early days here in Australia, I worked extensively in sales and management positions. When we decided to set up a Beauty business for ourselves, so many of our life experiences converged to create the perfect mix; Shahin’s head for numbers and creative flair, my interest in people and IT, our shared purpose in making something for ourselves in this new country. Sheer serendipity.

We make good partners. It’s very yin and yang, and it works! On a day-to-day basis, I oversee the back-end of the business, develop our processes and work towards business development. But the occasional reception duty is never off the books.

I love the freedom that our work with Bang on Brows gives me. We have two young children, and I am grateful for the flexibility that allows me to be dad, driver, hubs, accountant, business development officer, IT head, purchasing officer, HR head and general factotum with some degree of success!

I am very hands-on and pitch in to do anything that Bang on Brows needs me to do.
